The Newton Cross Country team competed at the Hesston "Swather Special" on Thursday with runners from 32 different school in classes 1A-6A. The Newton runners were scored as a group with classes 4-5-6A, and by school graduating class.
As a team, the Newton boys placed 4th, and the girls placed 7th, with the top 5 placers scoring. 22 Newton runners had personal best times.
Kasey Stucky was the top Freshman girl with a time of 17:39 for the 4K distance. Ashlyn Glann was the top sophomore girl, with the fastest Newton girls time of 16:22. Kelsi Langley was the top junior runner with a time of 18:43. Amy Kondziola was the fastest senior girl with 17:37.
Thomas Kelso had the top freshman boys time with 19:22 for the 5K distance. Corey Helsper led the sophomore boys in 19:02. Joey Greene was the top junior with a time of 18:15. Dilan Winter ran the fastest Newton boys and senior time of 17:12.
