Two Newton runners were individual medalists, and the Girls team brought home a 3rd place trophy from the Kansas State Championships meet held at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence. Erin Loeffler led the girls with a 12th place finish in a time of 16:28. Laban Lalouette placed 12th in a time of 17:01, which was a new personal record. The top twenty placers medaled. The Girls team was 3rd with a score of 137 points. The top girls team was St. Thomas Aquinas with 44 points, followed by Wichita-Bishop Carroll with 54. The 3rd place team finish was the highest placing ever by a NHS girls team. The Boys team was 7th with a score of 183 points. Wichita - Bishop Carroll won the 5A boys team title with 42 points, followed by McPherson with 83 points, and Hutchinson with 94 points. Complete Results / Photos |

The Sand Creek 2-mile Walk/Jog/run was held on Saturday with a tremendous turnout with 140 athletes participating. Joe Eby won the overall race with a time of 9:49.
